I’ll be honest. When I first tried out Allie X’s music, I wasn’t a fan. I didn’t think the songs did anything for me, and I chose to move on. When I tried her again about a couple of years later, I listened to those same songs again and fell in love. Recently, she released another album called Cape God. And while Allie X is one of my favorite artists, I do have some thoughts on her new album. Maybe not the most favorable, but let me break it down.

The Good: There are a couple of highlights from the album. “Fresh Laundry” was a good album starter and one of the best songs of the albums. That’s actually not saying much, and you will understand why as this review goes on. Though “Sarah Come Home” is also a highlight. The beats in some of the songs are interesting and eerie, but that’s really where all the positives end.

The Bad: If I’m honest, the songs on this album are really forgettable. None of them hit a home run for me. This is no CollXtion I or CollXtion II in terms of the number of bops and quality of bops. I respect that some people enjoy this album, but it does nothing for me. I chose not to review each song individually due to how repetitive the critique would get. However, I will recommend some of my favorite Allie X songs in a future article.

The Ugly: While Cape God is not the most boring album I’ve ever heard, it didn’t get me moving along to her songs like her previous efforts. At best, it’s background music that you can listen to passively. At worst, it’s a time waster that takes away around 43 minutes of your life. That is, if you make it through Cape God and don’t skip the songs or turn off the album. I was really hoping that there would be a lot of bops on this album. Unfortunately, it doesn’t live up to that. And the majority of her discography consists of bops. “Devil I Know” is not a very good song, and I don’t even think of the other songs. All that said, I don’t plan on listening to this album again.

Final Verdict: In conclusion, if you love Allie X and you’re curious about the sounds on this album, go ahead and listen to it. If you’re new to Allie X, I recommend listening to the CollXtion albums (I & II), because they’re so good and serve bops. Otherwise, I would skip this album.
