My last review of cultural snacks was supposed to be released in July, when I was eager to try those Thai snacks for the first time. Unfortunately, due to receiving the wrong box, I was not able to get a taste of Thailand. See, the thing is that I received the British snack box again not knowing that that would happen. Apparently, it was because I “chose” to get a repeat of it and not the Thai box (even though my mom doesn’t recall seeing options for boxes). And unfortunately, they were “out” of the Thai boxes. At least I received a complimentary box as apologies for the error, but you don’t know how much I wanted to try those Thai snacks.

So for my readers, I have to warn you. Universal Yums has a really good product. I highly recommend it for buying your first subscription term. But when buying a new box (if you choose to purchase another one after the term is up), you may get the same box if you aren’t aware. This may be a disclaimer that I put in the rest of my articles, but I want my viewers to be aware of the possibilities. I do not want my viewers to buy the subscription, renew again, and get mad due to not knowing about the possibility of receiving the same country a second time. Speaking of a disclaimer, I am not paid to make these reviews with Universal Yums, and I do not have any offers or promo codes to give. Unless otherwise stated, this is not about me trying to milk cash out of you. And regardless, I recommend my readers take this review and my other reviews at their discretion.

But enough of that. Let’s get into the Egyptian snacks! I’ll admit that I wasn’t thinking about trying Egyptian snacks anytime soon, but it was quite an experience. I’m ready to give the rundown!

The Snacks:

Tiger Chili and Lemon: What do you think of when you see the words “chili” and “lemon” together? Do you expect them to compliment each other? I sure didn’t. Though in potato chips, the combination is quite unique. The chili flavor was strong from the first taste, but these chips are actually not bad. I like my taste buds to sense spice, but I think if the chili flavor was more low-key, I would give this a higher rating. Good texture on the chips, but the chili flavor is too much. 3.55/5

Chocolate Wave Hazelnut: The chocolate tastes a bit stronger in comparison to the average American wafer (especially Kit Kats). The thing is that there is a hazelnut flavor present, which I can taste. Now you’re probably thinking about the Nutella spread since I brought up the words “chocolate” and “hazelnut”. I can’t say that it tastes like Nutella. It tastes more like a Ferrero Rocher, but without the filling. It tastes like your typical wafer. That said, it still gets a fair rating due to the fact that I like chocolate wafers. Yes, I am biased, but honesty is key. 3.85/5

Sakalans Wafer Halawa & Coffee: Oh lord. Here we go again with another wafer. Then again, I don’t eat wafers that often. Except for maybe Kit Kats, but that’s different. Anyways, this also looks like your typical American wafer from a local store. The coffee cream flavor is mild, so I don’t get much of a kick out of it. Even so, it tastes slightly sweeter as I continue eating it. I do like a mild sweetness at times, especially if it compliments the texture. That happens to be the case here, so it gets my praise for that. I’ll rate this slightly higher than the Chocolate Wave Hazelnut wafer, because the flavor is more satisfying to me in the long run. 3.95/5

Duetto: Don’t be fooled by the name of this snack. These look similar to the American fig bars. Okay, I know I keep bringing up how the snacks are “similar” to the American snacks, but for real. The flavors are unique, but the way they look and taste are similar. Though let me not get off-track.

These are date biscuits. And while the date flavor is there, they do taste like American fig bars. My taste buds are communicating to my brain about the bread part having a dry texture. They don’t horribly crumble, but the dry texture is quite something. I can’t fully put my finger around it, but on the whole, this snack is typical. 3.6/5

Cono Puffs Crazy Tomato: Tomato Corn Puffs. I’ve never thought of that before. I always knew about cheese puffs, but never about tomato puffs. This is going to be interesting for sure. It smells like salsa. The tomato flavor itself is reminiscent of the kind of packaged salsa you buy at a store. And because of that, I actually like these. Not everyone would like them, but I like them. And that’s that. 3.65/5

Pretzo Original Butter & Herbs: These taste like croutons. The mixture of the pretzel bread, butter, and herbs make for a taste like that. One could use them as croutons in a salad if one wanted to. I love mini pretzels as a snack, but I think I’ll stick with the plain pretzels for the signature taste. 3.45/5

Spaghetuss Apple: Just from reading the description, this is a Twizzler-like candy. It isn’t extremely sticky on my teeth, but the apple flavor is pretty generic. Especially for candy, it is nothing new or special. Just mild for me. 3.35/5

I had removed the candy from the pack when I remembered to get a photo of the wrapper.

Final Verdict: I’ll be honest. None of the snacks were phenomenally good, but none of them were horribly crap either. Oddly, this snack box is actually the highest rated out of all the ones I’ve tried. This is not because the snacks rank among the best snacks I’ve ever tried (maybe one of them do), but because the ratings among them were the most consistent. I’m not that hard to please with snacks. Many of the snacks I ranked as “passable” (around 3.5/5) are ones I would actually eat again, but you know I have to bring out my inner critic.

It was fun getting a taste of Egypt! And believe or not, I actually have one more snack box to review before this series is over (for now anyways). Can you guess the country I’m trying snacks from next? Hint: It’s where the entertainer Shakira was born. Even if you already know, you will have to wait to find out what the snacks are! And it’s coming up real soon!
